Number Recognition Worksheets (1-10 FREE!)
Whether you’re doing preschool from home or you just want to give your toddler/preschooler a head-start on recognizing numbers, these number recognition worksheets are perfect for moms to use with their littles at home.
Kids LOVE to learn! 10 minutes here and there of purposeful learning adds up fast! My 2-year-old has LOVED our letter recognition worksheets so far, so I decided to go with the same concept but with numbers. She’s loving playing “hide and seek,” finding the numbers that are hiding in the tree.
She’s able to do a fun activity, and she’s learning at the same time, so using these number recognition worksheets is a win-win for us!

The directions for these pages are simple – “Look for the {certain number} and circle all of them that you can find!” My daughter loves putting little balls of playdough on the numbers when she finds them (instead of circling them), and that’s totally ok because she’s still recognizing the numbers!
Any way that your little one can have fun doing this activity will be great! Sometimes we put a sparkly sequin on the numbers, sometimes a pom-pom….but playdough balls and cheerios are a favorite over here right now, so we’re pretty stuck on those for the time being. 😆

How do you teach number recognition?
- Start with one number at a time – I focus on just one number per week. Just don’t rush it!
- Show your child a big picture of the number, and trace it with your finger, describing it as “down, down, over” etc….whichever directions you’d use to trace it, so the shape of the number will be in their mind.
- Print these Number Recognition Worksheets and try to find the numbers with them and point them out, reminding them of the shape of the number (“5 goes over, then down…then has a ‘belly’!”).
- Get number fridge magnets and have them find the number you’re working on.
- PRAISE your child when they recognize/find the number you’re learning! It might seem so easy to you, but it’s huge to them when they recognize it! So treat it as a big deal and be so proud of them!
We’d love to speed up the process, wouldn’t we? There’s no telling how long it will take your child to identify numbers, but they key is be consistent with pointing out numbers to them. Before you know it, they’ll be telling YOU that they see certain numbers!
There are so many activities you can do to make this fun! The worksheets I have here are extra fun when you think beyond just finding and circling the numbers. Give your child a mini car and have them “drive” to the numbers that they spot! Put a cheerio or raisin on each number they find and then let them eat them! Preschoolers love anything hands-on, and when you’re using worksheets, you don’t just have to give them a pencil or crayon to complete the worksheet – we rarely do this at age two! I love asking my 2-year-old what she wants to put on the numbers she finds, and it’s cute to see what ideas she has. Plus, when it’s THEIR idea, they’re so much more cooperative! 😆
When preschoolers start recognizing numbers, they get interested in what’s a bigger or smaller number, thinking about more and less, even adding small amounts….so many concepts that will help them build a great foundation and get a head start in math skills! Giving them an early start on thinking about numbers and basic math concepts is setting them up for success with math!
There is no rule or guide for when a child can recognize numbers because there are so many factors involved. I believe toddlers are capable of more than you think. 😉 I have 5 kids and I’ve taught all my 2- & 3-year-olds to identify numbers and letters early. They love having 10 minutes here and there of an “activity,” and they don’t even realize I’m using it as a teaching opportunity! If you consistently add purposeful activities in with the goal of teaching number recognition, your little one will eventually catch on!

Look for the specific number that the page is featuring, and circle all of them that you can find! It's like hide and seek with identifying numbers!
If your little one isn't ready for or doesn't enjoy "circling," do something else like place a cheerio on each number they find!
