Photo Scavenger Hunt for Adults (Free Printable Team-Building Game)

Looking for a group game that’s actually fun for adults? This photo scavenger hunt for adults is a great way to get everyone laughing, working together, and making some hilarious memories. And the best part is that you don’t need a bunch of supplies or complicated preparation!

I originally put this game together for a group of young adults in their 20s. I wanted something clean and appropriate for our Christian group, but I also wanted it to feel like a genuinely fun activity—not a children’s game that adults were being asked to play (although, a large group of older kids would also enjoy this game of photo challenges). A photo scavenger hunt turned out to be the perfect idea, and we had such a good time!

Whether you’re planning a church young-adult activity, a family reunion, a college gathering, a birthday party, or a team-building event, this printable makes it easy to get started.

What Is a Photo Scavenger Hunt?

Instead of searching for objects and bringing them back, teams complete creative challenges by taking pictures. Some challenges might require them to recreate a movie poster, make a human clock, stage an awkward family photo, or create an optical illusion.

The goal is to complete as many challenges as possible before time runs out. Each challenge is worth points, and the team with the highest score wins.

What makes this game so much fun is that there isn’t just one way to complete most of the challenges. Two teams can receive the exact same prompt and come back with completely different—and equally hilarious—photos!

How to Play the Photo Scavenger Hunt

This game works especially well with a crowd of anywhere from 12–40+ people, divided into smaller groups, but it’s easily adjustable to any group size.

1. Divide Everyone Into Teams

I recommend teams of 4–6 people. That’s enough people to create some interesting group photos without making it difficult for everyone to participate.

If you have a group where some people don’t know each other very well, mix up the teams! This is a great opportunity for people to get to know someone new while working toward a common goal.

2. Give Each Team a Printable

Hand out the photo scavenger hunt list and have each team choose one phone to use as its official camera. This makes it much easier to keep all the photos together when it’s time to judge.

You can also have teams come up with a team name before they begin.

3. Explain the Rules

Before starting, make sure everyone understands the boundaries and how the scoring works.

Here are the rules I recommend:

  • Teams have 45 minutes to complete as many challenges as possible.
  • At least three team members must appear in each photo unless the challenge says otherwise.
  • Teams may complete the challenges in any order.
  • Photos must be taken during the game.
  • No AI-generated images or photo editing to fake a challenge.
  • Stay within the designated playing area.
  • Keep everything clean, kind, legal, and safe.
  • Return to the meeting place before the deadline.

You can adjust the time limit depending on the size of your property and how many challenges are on your printable.

4. Start the Hunt!

Set a timer and let the teams go!

If you’re playing at a church, you might allow teams to use the church building, parking lot, lawn, and other approved areas. If you’re playing at a larger venue or around town, make sure everyone knows exactly where they are allowed to go.

The challenges are meant to encourage creativity, so let teams interpret them in their own way. That’s where the funniest pictures usually come from!

Photo Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Adults

The printable includes a variety of creative challenges so teams can choose which ones they want to tackle first. Here are the fun things on this printed list that make this game so entertaining:

  • Album Cover: Take a photo that looks like your team is posing for an album cover.
  • Everybody Jump: Get a photo where everyone’s feet are off the ground at the same time.
  • Spell it Out: Use your bodies to spell a three-letter word.
  • Color Challenge: Find five objects that are the exact same color and photograph your team with them.
  • Awkward Family Photo: Recreate an uncomfortable-looking (but not inappropriate) family portrait.
  • Something Unexpected: Take a photo of your team somewhere we would never expect to see the entire team.
  • Something Doesn’t Belong: Create a normal-looking group photo with one very strange thing happening in the background. Judges have to spot it.
  • Perspective Trick: Make it look like someone is holding another teammate in the palm of their hand.
  • Advertisement: Choose an ordinary object and create a dramatic advertisement photo for it.
  • Where’s Waldo?: Hide one teammate somewhere in the photo. The judges should have to search for them.
  • Forced Perspective: Create a photo that makes one team member look gigantic and another look tiny.
  • One Color: Get a picture containing 10 different things that are the same color.
  • Famous Bible story: Recreate a famous Bible story that we can recognize in a 15-second video
  • Optical Illusion: Create a convincing optical illusion using only your team and your surroundings.
  • Commercial (VIDEO): Create a 15-second commercial selling something completely ordinary as though it’s a revolutionary new product.
  • Perfect Timing: Take a photo that could only have happened because the photographer pressed the button at exactly the right second.
  • The Domino Effect: Stage a photo where it looks like one tiny event has caused a ridiculous chain reaction involving the entire team.
  • Human Furniture: Use team members to create a recognizable piece of furniture. One person must actually “use” it.

These are the kinds of challenges that work well for adults because they require a little imagination and teamwork rather than just finding an object on a list.

How to Score the Game

Different point values are assigned, depending on how difficult each challenge is. Easy challenges are worth 5 points, medium challenges 10 points, and harder challenges 15 points.

We gave 5 extra points for each photo that included the entire team.

I also recommend giving a few bonus awards at the end, such as Funniest Photo, Most Creative Photo, Best Acting, or Best Overall Photo.

And don’t skip the photo viewing! If possible, put the pictures on a TV or projector and let everyone see what the other teams came up with. This can easily become the best part of the entire activity, trust me. 😆

A Clean, Fun Game for Church Groups and More

One of the things I love about this photo scavenger hunt is that it is simply a wholesome, fun activity that encourages people to work together and enjoy spending time with one another.

It would be great for church groups, family reunions, college groups, birthday parties, youth-group events, and even workplace team building. You can make the game as competitive or relaxed as you want.

If you’re looking for a group activity that doesn’t require much preparation but still gives everyone something to talk about afterward, give this one a try! (Our young adult group is *still* talking.)
