Free Printable Thanksgiving Cards: A Thoughtful Way to Say Thanks

Thanksgiving is a time to gather with loved ones, share a bountiful meal, and express gratitude for the blessings in our lives. While we often think of Thanksgiving as a time to give thanks through food and fellowship, it’s also an ideal occasion to express our appreciation through heartfelt words. Have you ever considered Thanksgiving greeting cards? It’s a simple, yet meaningful, way to share your sentiments! And what better way to share your sentiments than with a beautifully designed, free printable Thanksgiving card?

In this post, I’ve provided several ready-to-print cards in different designs for this Thanksgiving season – the perfect way to say thanks! Some of my favorite things are fall leaves, pumpkins, and everything fall, so these custom thanksgiving cards include all of those things, along with messages of warm wishes.

My favorite design….. 😍 😍 😍 ⬇️… a combo of florals and pumpkins in a beautiful color palette! I’ll definitely be using this one! (Download links are farther down in the post).

The PDF files you receive will be in this format – 2 5×7’s per page – those will fold down to 3.5″x5.”

The Tradition of Thanksgiving Cards

Thanksgiving cards have a rich history, dating back to the early 20th century when greeting cards began to gain popularity. These cards typically feature autumnal themes, such as fall foliage, pumpkins, turkeys, and scenes of harvest. The tradition of sending Thanksgiving cards has grown over the years, with many people using them to reach out to distant relatives or friends who may not be able to join them at the thanksgiving table. They’re also a great way to thank family members for a meal served on Thanksgiving Day!

Sending a Thanksgiving card allows you to connect with loved ones, share a personal message, and let them know you’re thinking of them during the holiday season. It’s a simple gesture, but it carries a profound impact, especially in today’s fast-paced, digital world where handwritten notes are rare.

How to Create and Use Free Printable Thanksgiving Cards

Creating your own Thanksgiving cards is easy and fun. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

  1. Find the Perfect Design: We offer several designs for free printable Thanksgiving cards in a variety of styles. Just look through our card designs and choose the pdf file for the one that suits your recipient best! (Download links are the buttons farther down in this post.)
  2. Print Your Card: Time to print! Use high-quality cardstock or thick paper to give your card a professional feel. You’ve got two print options: If you don’t have a home printer, you can always use a local print shop like Office Depot, Staples, etc. We love our laser printer because the colors are just so much more true and vibrant.
  3. Add Personal Touches: To make your card even more special, consider adding some personal touches. This could be a handwritten note inside the card, a small pressed leaf or flower, or even a family photo. These little details make the card unique and show that you’ve put thought and effort into creating something meaningful.
  4. Envelopes: It’s a great idea to slip your card into an envelope so it doesn’t get dirty. I get mine HERE from Amazon (you’re looking for size A1). Add a personal touch by putting a cute sticker or stamp on it. Give them at Thanksgiving dinner, or send them in the mail any time this holiday season!

Ideas for Messages to Include in Your Thanksgiving Card

Need some ideas for how to start a conversation in your Thanksgiving card? Here are some starters to inspire you. Of course, add something personal and unique to the person you’re writing to as well!

  • Simple Thank You: “Wishing you a harvest of blessings this Thanksgiving. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of my life. Happy Thanksgiving!”
  • Gratitude for Friendship: “This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for friends like you who bring joy, laughter, and warmth into my life. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.”
  • Family Appreciation: “Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all the good things in life, and I’m so grateful to have a family as amazing as ours. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!”
  • Inspirational Quote: “As we gather around the table, let’s remember that ‘Gratitude turns what we have into enough.’ Wishing you a beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving.”
  • Humorous Message: “Thanksgiving: The one day we get to eat like there’s no tomorrow! Hope your holiday is filled with food, fun, and a little bit of chaos. Happy Thanksgiving!”

Tips for printing your free printable Thanksgiving cards:

    • Print on card stock for best results! You don’t want ink to bleed through regular paper.
    • Use a laser printer if possible for the best color matching.
    • Print at 100% if you want your card to end up 3.5″x5″ folded.
    • Cut along the gray lines after printing – I recommend using a paper trimmer with a wire guide line.
